The Malt District

An historical, industrial location for people who want to live, work, visit and be inspired by Melbourne’s newest creative heart.

Cremorne is the little known suburb that appears as the southern pocket of Richmond bordered by the Yarra River and Punt Rd. From Cremorne you can easily walk through parkland to the city, wander up to Swan St cafes and bars, take a bike ride along the river, saunter over to watch the cricket, the football or even the Australian Open. It would be hard to find a location that puts you so firmly in Melbourne and everything that matters to the city.

The Malt District will become a vibrant and viable mixed-use precinct that will make a positive impact on the area and create a 21st century landmark. This development will combine modern residences, generous public spaces, boutique work spaces and retail, much of which will be built sensitively into the old buildings, giving them a new lease on life and enduring relevance to everyone in Melbourne.

Caydon are committed to ensuring The Malt District Precinct will be a destination of choice with modern residences, generous public open space, boutique offices and retail – all designed to sensitively complement existing buildings.

  1. Stage
Coppins Corner is the first release at The Malt District - a mixed use 15 & 12 split level residential building incorporating one, two and three bedroom apartments as well as a SoHo offering for small business owners. The commercial space at ground floor will include a boutique convenience store and a proposed cafe with active landscaped frontages allowing public connection through to the centre of the site.
  2. Stage
Incorporating a majority of the sites area and heritage elements, Stage 2 includes two residential buildings, a rooftop bar and restaurant under the iconic Nylex clock, a hotel set into the famous VB silo’s, office and retail space and a microbrewery, gastro pub and café set into unique heritage buildings. All this activity is all surrounded by generous public realm, meticulously curated by Oculus.
  3. Stage
The only dedicated commercial office building at The Malt District, Stage 3 sits in the south-eastern tip of the site. In keeping with the Districts creative, industrial feel, Hayball Architects have designed the 10,000-square metres of commercial floorplans to be reminiscent of converted warehouse spaces with a co-working, start-up feel.
